NVIDIA nForce2 Based Mainboards Roundup
Digit-life have managed to scrape together enough nForce2 boards to put out a good roundup. On test are the ABIT NF7-S, ASUS A7N8X, Chaintech 7NJS, EPoX 8RDA+, Leadtek K7NCR18D-Pro and MSI K7N2.

Although not everyone stuffed its solution with as many features as possible, there is no free space on textolite of all the boards. And if we compare characteristics of the budget nForce2 based boards and expensive models on other chipsets, it will be hard to say who is going to take the palm.

8-Ball Window Kit Review
OCIA checks out a laser etched 8-Ball Window Kit in their latest review.

While at the time a window in a PC was revolutionary, there is no hiding the fact that it was a "simple" mod. I just slapped up a piece of plexiglass behind the window, put on some window molding around the edges and was done. I suppose I was so intrigued by the window that I didn't see the plainness in it. It was not until a bit later that case lighting became all the rage. Shortly thereafter, window appliqués started making an appearance on some case windows. Now, Case-Mod has taken things one step further by taking a case window and laser etching a design into it, thus creating the 8-Ball Window Kit we are looking at today.

ATI R300 Package: Thermal Problems Caused by the Shim
Frosty Tech have some useful info on a problem we commented on in our look at the Radeon 9700 Pro. It seems the copper shim used to protect the core may not be allowing the heat sink to make actual contact on some/all cases. Not a problem if you use the regular thermal tape but a potential problem if want to whack on something a little more efficient like Nanotherm or AS.

To put it bluntly, there is problem with the ATI R300 processor package that impacts just how well heatsinks can cool on the Radeon 9700 Pro.

With the area around the R300's silicon core populated by ultra small capacitors and resistors, the manufacturer has placed something there for protection. That protection comes in the form of a 4mm wide band of copper which runs around the perimeter of the 40mm square package. It helps to prevent the tiny components from getting crushed, or the core from being chipped

AMD AthlonXP Thoroughbred Unlocking
Overclockers Australia show us how to unlock the Athlon Thoroughbred. What they forget to mention is that although closing the last L3 bridge opes up the power multipliers you lose the higher range from 13X upwards.

unlocked a couple of Athlon XP Thoroughbred CPUs. I took them to an easily stable 2600+ and 2800+ speed with full control of multipliers and everything, yet it took me about 2 minutes. Here is a series of pics to illustrate how easy it is. I thought it would be kewl to show everyone how to do it the easy way.

Albatron Ti4200 Turbo Review
DigitalDomination review the Albatron Ti4200P Turbo that Impressed us so much when we took it for a spin HERE.

Albatron decided to place the Ti 4200 onto the 8-layer PCB of the Ti 4600. The A3 silicon is covered with an all copper heat sink, add 3.3ns BGA RAM covered with their own heat sinks, and you have something that makes the other cards run away in fear. Not only does the card have all the performance parts that you could desire, it is also pleasing to the eye. The bright blue PCB goes perfectly with the copper, and silver heat sinks.

Iiyama 18.1" LCD Monitor Review
Iiyama were renowned for the quality of their CRT monitors but LCD is a whole different ball game. TECH-PC look at their 18" offering to see if the name Iiyama carries the same kudos.

TFT's have been in existence for some time now, and have been used in laptops for years, so why do we all still have CRT monitors? The answer is a mixture of cost and performance. For some time now TFT monitors have been priced much higher than CRT monitors, and have had worse performance than their CRT counterparts. Things are changing though, and the good news is it's not a slow change.

Gainward's AGP8X NVIDIA Powered "Golden Samples"
HotHardware are putting a couple of Gainward's new AGP8X GeForce 4s to the test.

It comes with all of the features of the Pro 600, less the RAM-sinks, plus a more powerful GPU that has pixel and vertex shaders and an additional 64MB of RAM. Take into account the excellent overclocking potential of the card and it will prove to offer the best balance between performance and price. When it comes to value minded graphics cards with better than average performance, the Gainward GF4 Powerpack! Ultra/650 8X/XP TV/DVI is very attractive.

EPoX 8RDA+ nForce 2 Motherboard Review
Hexus check in with the first review of the Epox 8RDA+ I've seen so far. Should be interesting to see if their prowess with VIA's chipsets can be reproduced with the nForce2 chipset.

EPoX have made a name for themselves with motherboards generally aimed towards the enthusiast sector. Extremely adjustable BIOSes, relatively cheap prices, and performance that matches the best the industry have to offer, has meant that EPoX's star is on the rise. Let's see how their first attempt at an nForce2-based motherboard fares as we look at the 8RDA+.

LIUtilities WinBackup
I Am Not A Geek has a new review posted, featuring LIUtilities WinBackup.

WinBackup is very easy to use, and recordable CD media is a lot cheaper than other backup alternatives (tape cartridges, tape or DAT drives, etc). With options like weekly or monthly scheduling, encrypted and password protected backups, and a fast way to back up your emails and address book, WinBackup is a serious contender.
