Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz Review
Despite the move to a 0.13micron process the decision by Intel to equip the Celeron's with a mean 128K level2 cache and a plodding 400MHz bus meant nobody really expected it to blaze trails. AnandTech has been weighing up the 2.0GHz variety.

Despite using some basic air cooling we encountered no problems whatsoever at 3.0 GHz. In fact, we didn't even need to raise the core voltage past its default operating specification. All of the benchmarks were run with [sic] a single crash or hiccup. However, above 3.0 GHz we started having trouble, and without an increase in cooling power or voltage it was not possible to sustain an acceptable level of stability at higher clock speeds.

SocketA Coolers Roundup Q4 `2002
Digital-Daily continue their look at the world of SocketA coolers. I'm not sure if a further article is to follow but some of the big guns are conspicuous by their absence.

In the first two parts we covered 10 coolers, with a special emphasis given to the noise characteristics. Other important factors like the fastening reliability, radiator's dimensions, material used, appearance, processing quality etc. have been disregarded. Some of these are fairly subjective, so we estimated them in score points. The cooling ability is quite precise a parameter and can be measured in Celsius degrees.

Four Up at AthlonXP!
The boys at AthlonXP.com have busted out FOUR new review this week. Here's a roundup of what they've been up to :

Gigabyte 7VAXP Motherboard Review

Gigabyte is known mostly for their motherboards, but they make many other products as well, the new ATI Radeon is one of them. They have kept up with all the other major manufactures in every way from latest chipsets to price, especially in price. In the motherboard department their newest AMD platform is the VIA KT400.

Enermax Neon Lighted Case

Enermax CS-3051L-S3A allows the average end user to light up and show off their system without the necessity of modding. At first glance you might think that this is an Aluminum Case but it is not. Enermax has opted to utilize lightweight steel in the construction of the CS-3051L-S3A. Don't get the wrong idea, this case isn't just another flimsy, thin walled case. The design and layout promotes a solid stiffness that cuts down on flexing.

ATI Radeon 9700 Video Card Review

I'll be honest. I didn't have much faith that ATI could upset Nvidia when it came to 3D performance. Despite a history of great cards for video and DVD enthusiasts, it was never a choice for hardcore gamers; Nvidia was the only option. It seemed as though they were always one step ahead, ready to trump any announcement from ATI. Stable, fast, and user-friendly drivers complemented Nvidia's more powerful line of video cards. They seemed untouchable. Now, after having a good two weeks to run the Radeon 9700 Pro through my personal "Gaming Gauntlet," all doubt has been erased. ATI has truly hit a sweet spot with this one, and until the NV30 comes out, the 9700 will remain the uncontested king of gaming performance.

Logitech Z540 Speaker Review

Logitech has been making computer accessories since 1981 and recently jumped into the computer speaker market. I have had the chance to look at the Z540 set of Logitech speakers. Specifications on the box say four satellites at five watts each and 20 watts for the subwoofer for a total of 40 watts RMS. The response is listed at 35Hz to 20KHz.

Vantec Aeroflow VA4-C7040 Socket-A
Lately, heatsinks have been getting bigger and fans have been getting louder to cool todays processors. Vantec bucks the trend, and has something a little different. ViperLair have more.

I typically run at 8x166, which in MHz equals 1328. The Aeroflow had little problem with this speed, staying at about 50C under load. At 8x168, I was unable to boot past the POST, and the system kept locking up. In contrast to the Swiftech, which would hover about 48C at 8x166, and boot into Windows (though the system would still occasionally lockup) at 8x168.

Battle of the SiS 648 Budgets - MSI vs. Gigabyte vs. ECS
TweakTown has just posted a round-up article entitled "Battle of the SiS 648 Budgets - MSI vs. Gigabyte vs. ECS", comparing three SiS 648 based motherboards for the Pentium 4 platform.

The Pentium 4 processor line has been with us for sometime now and has matured into quite the profitable making product for Intel after its rather shaky inception. Now we have the Top 3 chipset manufacturers creating chipset solutions for the processor. One which has begun to stand out in the crown is SiS with their solid 648 chipset. Today TweakTown presents us with a roundup of three budget motherboards based on this very chipset from MSI, Gigabyte and ECS!

Samsung Syncmaster 171mp Review
GideonTech takes a swing at another LCD monitor. Samsung's 171mp looks to have a lot going for it.

We run through quite a few LCD monitors here at GT, from normal analog based value models to the robust digital combos. The next step in our journey is a high end combo multi function unit with all the fixings. How does a 17" viewable, HDTV capable, TV Tuner, PC and Video combo LCD sound? We are drooling too...

X-Clear Plexiglas PC Case Review
There was a lot of fuss not so long ago about high EMI and potential fire risks when using these clear cases but it seems to have subsided again. The Overclocker Café looks over Xoxide’s entry into the clear case arena called the X-Clear.

The X-Clear case is the first Plexiglas case we have reviewed here at the OCC. While there are a few shortcomings overall, we found the case to be very good. The X-Clear's supports seemed to do the job when we picked the case up. Minimal flex was felt. And we all know what happens with plexi flexes too much. You get cracks like the ones on your CD jewel covers.

Creating A Silent PC
OCIA posts up an article on Creating A Silent PC. Will it be possible to create a PC that produces little or no noise at all, while still maintaining reasonable temperatures? Below is a quote from the article:

While no longer top of the line, this system definitely holds its own. It has served as a LAN rig on several occasions and runs without a hitch. As many of you already know, the older T-Bird cores run hotter than today's XP chips so we have the odds stacked against us here. My goal for this article is to have a very quiet pc running at acceptable temperatures.

Lian Li PC78 Server Style Case Review
And the case reviews keep coming! This time it's Hexus who are homing in on the Lian Li PC78 Server Style Case.

The only gripes I have with the case are its cost, availability and it's uncanny knack of picking up all fingerprints and making them visible. I like my cases clean so it's a lot of maintenance, especially if you are in and out of it all the time like I am, my grubby mitts get everywhere.

Creative GeForce4 MX460 Review
Creative may have sid "no thank you" to NV18 and NV28 but the rest of their GeForce4 lineup is as strong as ever. DeviantPC has just published a review of the Creative GeForce 4 MX460.

The Creative GeForce MX460 isn't going to set the graphics card world alight. Having said that, the card has performed admirably in the benchmark tests and would easily cope with the graphical demands of the games on offer today. If you are obsessed with 3DMark scores, then the card is not for you but if you want to upgrade from your ageing graphics card then the MX460 is certainly worth a look at.
