Detonator Roundup
|
|
FordPrefect over at BoogleTech has updated his detonator
roundup to include a whopping 24 drivers! Detonators 27.20
to 41.03 are covered in: 3D Mark 2001, Quake 3, Quake
3 with FSAA and Anis, UT2003, Serious Sam 2 and Comanche
4.
|
|
Your GeForce4 Ti has arrived, you have put it in your
PC and installed the drivers on the CD; but you begin
to wonder, can I get better performance with a different
detonator driver? Will a different driver improve image
quality? Will a different driver resolve compatibility
problems with a specific game, or will system stability
improve?

Koolance -- EXOS External Liquid Cooling System
|
|
Systemcooling review one of those "why's it taken
so long?" products, the EXOS self contained external
liquid cooling system.
|
|
But going out and installing a liquid cooling kit does
bring out those worries: leaks, and the possibility of
messing up the install of such a complex kit. That is
where the Koolance Exos comes into its own. Its ease of
use and simplicity of installation make it one of the
finest liquid cooling kits around. In fact, you'll be
quite amazed at what an easy setup this kit is!

ATi Radeon 9700 Pro Vs nVidia GeForce Ti4600
|
|
It's a bit of a generation mis-match in theory but Spodes
Abode have set out the arena for a battle of the giants
as the Radeon 9700 Pro squares up to the GeForce4 Ti4600.
|
|
The first thing that struck me as different from their
predecessors is the exclusion of RAM sinks. This is due
to moving over to the tinyBGA format. These give off a
lot less heat that the old variety and of course let us
achieve a faster speed. One of the other reasons for excluding
ramsinks is in the design of the heatsinks. In theory
they both move air across the RAM, in nVidia's case more
so due to the shrouding over the sink. The problem with
this design is assumes that there is adequate case cooling
for the rear ram chips - this is not always the case.

Comdex 2002 - Day 1: Working Springdale & Hammer Samples
|
|
AnandTech check in with their day 1 report from Comdex
Fall. Things seem very different there this year.
|
|
This year's Fall Comdex is much different from what we're
used to seeing; the show floor is dominated by a handful
of major manufacturers, but the motherboard guys are nowhere
to be seen. The Microsofts, Toshibas and Samsungs of the
world occupied the majority of the show floor and were
demonstrating everything from LCDs to Tablet PCs.

Comdex 2002 Day 1
|
|
Sudhian are also over in Las Vegas and have posted up
their thoughts on what day 1 had to offer.
|
|
Its November again, the time of year when hundreds
of technology companies descent on the Las Vegas Convention
Center to demonstrate their new products to other companies
and individuals. Though last year saw a decline in attendance,
this year there seems to be more people around. But enough
with an intro, on to the fun.

FIC AT009 Radeon 9000 Pro review
|
|
TechSpot are reviewing the FIC AT009 Radeon 9000 Pro and
come away with mixed feelings.
|
|
ATIs answer to NVIDIA has been the Radeon product
line, which is indeed re-establishing them in the gaming
community. Latest offerings include the 9000, 9500, and
the flagship 9700. More specifically, the Radeon 9000
Pro is ATIs direct competitor to the popular MX
cards from NVIDIA.

120GB Hard Drive Shootout
|
|
If a medium/high capacity hard drive is on your shopping
list Gamers Depot home in on two contenders. the Seagate
Barracuda ATAV and the Western Digital Caviar SE 120GB.
|
|
One thing that doesnt change about computing is
the need for a medium in which to store your data on
hard drives have filled this role for over 20 years now
and seem to do a good job of keeping with the latest demands.
Unlike other pieces of hardware, however, hard drives
have mechanical moving parts so improving them with regards
to performance and capacity can be a stretch even for
the best of hard drive manufacturers.

Enermax CSX305ILS Review
|
|
Case modding - not just for extremists anymore. More and
more cases are coming out of the factory pre-modded, which
can be a good thing. Today BlueSmoke gives the Enermax
CSX305ILS a good looking over.
|
|
I remember when I first came in to the reviewing scene,
case mods were things that only the extremists were doing.
A blow hole here, a window there, etc. Well over the years,
believe it or not, the case manufacturers have watched
and listened to what we as reviewers, and you as consumers
were saying as far and wants and needs go. Now you have
cases that come pre-modded with windows, blow holes and
the like, although not as many or extreme as some of the
cases that our readers have made.

GeForce FX Launch Interview
|
|
Beyond3D has more GeForce FX details from the London launch
and a technical interview with NVIDIAs Geoff Ballew,
which uncovers a number of the technical details behind
GeForce FXs architecture, features and abilities.
|
|
"There was talk that FP16 (64-bit floating point
rendering) could run twice the speed of FP32 (128-bit
floating point rendering), is that the case?"
"Yes it is. Because we have native support in our
hardware for FP16 and FP32. So, every pipeline is wide
enough to accommodate the full 128-bit through the entire
thing -- in the Vertex Shader, in the Pixel Shader and
out to the frame buffer. Because we support 128-bit throughout
the entire pipeline we added some extra control line and
we can split those 128-bit channels into 64-bit channels.
Now, that's only in the shading architecture, so we don't
get twice as many pixels, but you get twice as many 64-bit
in instructions. Also, if you want to use FP16 you'll
have a smaller frame buffer so it has a lower footprint
in memory as well."

MSI GNB MAX Granite Bay Motherboard Review
|
|
With several key players in the motherboard market expressing
doubts over whether they'll bother to release their Granite
Bay boards, Hexus take a look at MSI's offering, the GNB
MAX.
|
|
The feature set on the MSI is up to their usual standards.
The full retail motherboard will provide you with more
brackets and extras than you can shake the proverbial
stick at. With optional Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth and WLAN
support, the GNB MAX can be specified to a disarmingly
high standard.

Thermaltake Volcano 9 Heatsink and Fan
|
|
Overclockersclubcanada has completed a review on the Thermaltake
Volcano 9 Heatsink and Fan. Here's some snippage :
|
|
Thermaltake needs no introduction; almost everyone knows
who they are and what they make. Not long ago I got a
Volcano 7+ soon after once again Thermaltake comes out
with a better product thus being the new Volcano 9. The
noise was starting to bother me so I figured that a upgrade
was needed. I have heard some great things about the V9
so how does it perform? Read on and we shall see.

FanStorm Deluxe Fanbus
|
|
MHW tries a new path today in our struggle for a quieter
PC, the FanStorm Deluxe fanbus. To make things really
interesting they throw it in an hot running dually system
to really see that it gets a workout!
|
|
FanStorm is a fan controller that helps manage airflow
in your pc controlling up to 16 fans simultaneously. It
uses a technology called "Pulse Width". This
design does not produce heat, unlike traditional fan controllers
that use a resistor. This technology also helps control
heat automatically without the need to flip a switch or
turn on a fan.
