Preview of SiS Xabre 600 GPU
The first Xabre GPUs were incredibly promising but were spoilt primarily by fairly average drivers. HardwareZone have taken a peep at the new Xabre 600 which now features a 0.13u core. Certainly looks promising!

The Xabre has always been a pretty powerful graphics processor considering that it's able to give the mainstream RADEON 7500 and GeForce4 MX a good beating. However, it is still not as popular among users and manufacturers alike. Still, SiS is determined to show the world that its technological advancements were better than popular brands like NVIDIA or ATI and it's not going to give up without a good fight.

NVIDIA GeForce FX
More GFFX action as nvmax chip in with their thoughts on the latest graphics chip from NVIDIA.

Given that Intel is as aggressive as never before, AMD decided to offer Athlon XP “Barton” processors with 400MHz FSB in order to boost the performance of those CPUs. According to the statements, the increase in speed is pretty significant, hence, there is a lot of sense in producing such microprocessors in order to compete with Hyper-Threading enabled Pentium 4 processors from Intel.

Comdex 2002 - Day 2: Intel's CPU Roadmap & Hammer Performance
AnandTach bring us their Comdex day2 coverage including a look at Intel's plans and more on the Athlon 64.

The relatively slow (compared to this year) clock speed ramp next year gives AMD a chance to regain some of their lost performance ground. The slow clockspeed ramp also puts pressure on Intel to introduce their 90nm Prescott core as soon as possible, however currently it is scheduled for a Q4 2003 release.

New Nanotherm Compounds Review
Overclockedcafe put Nanotherm's new thermal compounds to the test. There's no doubting that those who haven't taken this stuff seriously up until now should rethinking!

As far as I'm concerned, ESG has done it again, and when the Nanotherm EXP hits the market, they may just hit a homerun right out of the park. For the AMD crowd, in my opinion this should be the thermal grease of choice, nonconductive and as efficient as any other available goo out there silver or not. For the Intel crowd, well it's just a fine damn interface material, period, and you won't be disappointed.

NVIDIA GeForce FX Paper Launch Postmortem
3DGPU have run an article by Paul Sullivan, where he goes through his thoughts and dissects what went down with the GeForce FX launch, and compares it to what ATI has put out with the Radeon 9700. It's a lenghty article that really gets to the nitty-gritty of things, and well worth a read!

Because of development delays that caused Nvidia to miss at least one product cycle and the unexpected introduction of the highly-touted ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, Nvidia has made the decision to execute a paper launch of their new product, the Geforce FX. This is not the first time this has been done. AMD has done this with their recent products after Intel has stormed the gates with fast chips that have stolen the thunder, and market share, from the AMD product line, and ATI did it somewhat on the 8500, even releasing a product that wasn't fully functional on delivery. But neither of those companies were market leaders. Once a media darling in the financial markets, Nvidia has for many months now been battered about pretty hard. Their stock price has nose-dived and their market capitalization has plunged along with it, meaning that this new product cycle is key to regaining the confidence of the market and of investors. They have poured hundreds of millions into R&D, and if it doesn't pay off, they could be in a world of hurt.

AMD Athlon in Retrospect
Tonight......AMD Athlon....This is your life! EliteGuild look back at the life and times of AMD's wunder-chip.

AMD Athlon. That is a name that has become commonplace in the CPU market. The Athlon, which was first launched with a 650MHz clock speed more than 3 years ago, has been at times in its life, been Intel’s worst possible nightmare. Over the past few months, we have seen Intel’s Pentium 4 CPU scale incredibly and it reached 3.06GHz just last week. The Athlon is struggling to keep pace. I thought this would be a good time to take a look back to see what has happened in the last 3 years to the Athlon. So, lets get started.

Vantec Nexus Multi-Function Panel
More than just fan control, the Nexus monitors temperatures, provides alarm warnings, and provides USB and FireWire connectivity. ViperLair put it through the wringer.

The LCD display displays the system information your interested in with the touch of a button. There are three temperature probes included with the Nexus, and all you have to do is attach them to whatever it is you want to monitor. I would imagine the most likely combination is the CPU, hard drive and system. However, you can choose to watch the video card, your memory or even your Northbridge. It's up to you. Another nice feature is the LCD is backlit, so even in the dark, you can still read the LCD.

DutchCedar's "BadAss" Ultimate case mod
AthlonXP have put an article together looking at some very nice modding work from one of their forum members. Not only does this guy have too much time on his hands he has too much cash in his pockets too!

When I first saw this case mod posted in our forums, I thought that this guy had too much time on his hands. After seeing his liquid cooling project, I've changed my mind. This guy has WAY too much time on his hands. I guarantee that you have never seen a case mod quite like this. Go see how DutchCedar turned 2 CoolerMaster cases into 1 "BaDass" case, complete with liquid cooling.
