ASUS V9280S SuperFast GeForce 4 Ti 4200-8X AGP Review
Got apex? have the lowdown on yet another supercharged Ti4200. The ASUS V9280S weighs in with 128MB 3.3ns video memory running at 600MHZ and a 275MHz NV28 core.

With the recent announcement of the NV30, and the presence of the 9700, it's easy to dismiss a Ti4200 as being old hat. After all, it's hardly top of the line any more. But the reality is that most people buy on the low end, upgrade on the low end, and don't really care to spend $400 to $500 bucks on a video card.

CoolerMaster Aluminum Alloy CD-ROM Bezel
OCIA checks out a new product from the guys at CoolerMaster in the form of an Aluminum Alloy CD-ROM Bezel. Could this bezel help your CD-ROM make the transition from beige to beautiful?

On most aluminum cases, you will find the finish to be that of the brushed aluminum look. Unlike steel, with aluminum you have the option to anodize your case in nearly any color of the rainbow. While certain colors do look great on these cases, most people prefer the rugged brushed aluminum look. A case like this looks great fresh out of the box, but once you install your components, you are faced with the fact that your CD-ROM bezels do not match the aluminum case. For some this is not a problem, but for the perfectionists, this must be taken care of. A few options are available for someone in this situation!

Nvidia Strongly Dislikes Curved Surfaces: No Displacement Mapping Support in the GeForce FX
Reactor Critical (aka popup central) is reporting that the GeForceFX doesn't actually support displacememnt mapping. I must admit we didn't ask about this as we assumed as a DirectX 9 part displacement mapping was a given. Certainly one for us to ask NVIDIA about.

Since it has become a real financial drain on some companies, a lot of big names are unable to justify the 72 dollars per square foot for a booth. However, for many small companies this is one of the few times of the year they will be able to make a name for themselves and increase their product awareness. Interestingly enough, these small fish are also the vendors that seem to have the new and unconventional technology, particularly in cooling and case technology. Get ready for our thorough breakdown of this year’s C&C analysis of new products on the floor!

How to Volt-mod your GeForce 4 videocard
TechSpot have an article up showing how to pump a little more juice through your GeForce 4.

Although with significant differences, one could say that GeForce4 Ti4200 cards are based on very similar hardware than most Ti4600 cards (our overclocking target). The first difference you will notice when looking at both cards is that Ti 4200’s are much smaller; being a slower product, most manufacturers save on production costs by reducing the power circuit significantly. This card actually has a power circuit more comparable to that of the GeForce3 than the GeForce4 Ti4600.

Nvidia CEO: NV30 to place Nvidia as performance leader in desktop market again
DigiTimes have cornered NV guru Huang Jen-hsun and grilled him on their fiscal performance and R&D costs.

The third-quarter losses, a first-time situation since I have taken the post as CEO, were mainly caused by a charge of more than US$600 million for buying employee stock options. The system is to protect employees’ rights. Though the amount is big, we think the investment is worthwhile. Excluding this charge, Nvidia maintained its record of turning in profits every quarter. In the past four years, we had never experienced losses, something shared by very few companies in Silicon Valley.

First new Geforce FX cards will be called GeForce FX 5800s
The inquirer have been sleeping with their ear close to the ground and have heard that the GFFX will get a 5800 and 5800 Ultra suffix. We knew there was to be a numeric suffix and 5800 sounds feasible.

NVIDIA ON MONDAY introduced a chip named the Geforce FX, as you may well have read somewhere by now. We later heard that this name will get the suffix 5800. We also learn that there will be at least two versions of the Geforce FX, the 5800 and 5800 Ultra.

Protect Yourself From Viruses
Virus, worms and exploits are everywhere. ViperLair provide some basic info on each, and how you can protect yourself from opening your computer up to the wackos out there.

Like the story, in the computer world, a trojan horse is a malicious program that does not appear to be obvious. There are several trojans out there, and an infamous one is the dreaded Back Orifice. Many times, nobody is aware they've been infected, and trojans are hidden in almost anything interactive in nature.

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Review
PureOC has had a chance to look over AMD's XP 2400+. The revision B core is certainly cooler running and seems to have a little more headroom for overclocking.

The new Tbred B core has a much smaller die size then the older Palomino core but is bigger then the Tbred A core. The die size of the new core is 84 mm^2 while the Tbred A is 80mm^2.
The biggest problem with a smaller core is that it's harder too cool compared to a bigger one, the heatsink has a lot less contact area thus resulting is higher temps.

AVC Avalanche and Tundra 2 HSF
Winter's beginning to make its presence felt here in Blighty and hearing names like "Avalanche" and Tundra" does nothing to warm the cockles of our hearts. TechwareLabs get their chill on!

To begin, the look and feel of these heatsinks is excellent. You can tell a lot about a product by the care taken in packaging and also in the finish of a product. These two heatsinks have very nice finish. The all copper Tundra2 features a clear, quiet, yet effective oversized fan delivered great performance. The aluminum Avalanche with copper insert, and a mean looking 11 fin fan performed equally as well.
