eDimensional wired 3D Glasses Video Review
That man Rodney checks out some 3D LCD shutter glasses from eDimensional. Apparently Roy Orbison helped out with the design stage!

"The eDimensional wired 3D Glasses add a whole new thrill to games, pictures and even DVD's on your CRT monitor. Also, with this model you don't have to worry about batteries, however, those who dislike cables might prefer the wireless glasses. Whichever model you prefer they will both offer the same amazing 3D effect. Watch the Video to find out more..." ~3dGameMan.com

Logitech MX 300, MX 500 and MX 700 mouses
Dan, the face that launched a thousand T shirts has been putting a trio of Logitech rodents through their paces.

The sensor in the MX-series mouses is grandly named the "MX Optical Engine", and Logitech proudly claim that it captures "up to 4.7 megapixels of surface tracking information every second". Which is apparently more than any previous mouse sensor manages. But Logitech have stopped quoting how many images of the surface the mouse snaps per second, and nobody ever seems to have quoted the actual sensor resolution of one of these things. So I'm in the dark about what, if anything, the megapixel number means.

Thermal Compound Shootout
ViperLair have rounded up some of the more common thermal compounds along with the new range of Nanotherm compounds to see how they stack up. I'm sure we've posted this before but it's dated November 22nd so what the hey!

In terms of performance, other than the XTC and EXP products, performance between the compounds was relatively equal across the board. Even the absolute worse was only one degree higher than the Nanotherm Ice and Blue. The question now is what to buy and do you need it.

TX Venus II 48/24/48 CDRW
Hexus check out a low priced, hish speed burner, the TX Venus II 48/24/48. At around £50 it seems to perform very well but lacks the on-the-fly quality checking features of the Plextor's judging by its indifference to media.

If you've got an older drive, I'd recommend the Tx Venus II. It excels in not just writing but also in reading. With an estimated street price of around £50, it's not too heavy on the pocket either. I just hope that a decent software bundle is provided.

Sapphire ATLANTIS Radeon 9500 Review
A few weeks ago ATI announced the full range of products based on Radeon 9700 PRO’s R300 chip, however reviews have been few and far between as yet. Today Beyond3D lifts the lid in the low end DX9 contender courtesy of Sapphire and their ATLANTIS RADEON 9500.

In comparison to the 9000 PRO though, it seems that 9500 can keep a nice little performance gain over all resolutions. This is probably in part to the extra geometry throughput of the 9500, but it could also be due to the fact that 9500's 'HYPER-Z III' bandwidth saving scheme can do early rejection of occluded pixels that weren't already rejected by the hierarchical Z-buffer.

Plextor 48/24/48A Review
Techware Labs has just published its review of the Plextor 48/24/48A CD burner. With prices in free fall high speed burning is lo longer reserved for the well endowed wallet.

Over the past years, Plextor has become a name associated with quality, innovation, and speed. The Plextor 48/24/48A is not a disappointment in any of these categories. It's truly amazing everything this drive can do, and even more amazing that it can do it all in less than 3 minutes over the span of an entire CD.

Watercooled GF4, Core and Memory Voltage Mod
MHW goes crazy with a GF4 Ti4600 card today. They water cool it and then voltage mod the core and the memory!

You can see the metallic heatspreader at the left - unmolested... it looks OK, eh? Well look at the next pic after a bit of sanding... the concavity clearly stands out as an unlapped area... this area slowly shrinks as you lap... but be careful of some of the higher resistors on the board (outlined in red)... get too enthusiastic while lapping and "off they go!" - I can tell you that Crazy Glue won’t fix it either, don’t ask me how I know that....

Zalman CNPS5700D-Cu Quiet CPU Cooler
Overclockers Club Canada has finished a review on Zalman's CNPS5700D-Cu Quiet CPU Cooler. Here's a quote from the review:

Using fans for cooling has never been a problem as yet, and in terms of getting the job done, it does that very well. However, everything has a price, and for fans, the price is noise pollution. This fan noise can be caused by the fan motor itself, or by the amount of air that the fan pulls through. The more air you put through a tight space, the more noise it is going to make. For some users, this noise is very annoying, and if you have a computer in your room, sometimes this noise is loud enough that you have trouble sleeping without turning the computer off. So how can you maintain a quiet system and yet provide sufficient airflow into your components? This is where Zalman steps in.

Comdex 2002 Summary
Amdmb.com has just published their coverage of this year's Fall Comdex show. There were a few surprising discoveries including 1.4 GHz Athlon 64 processors and the possibility of having a 400 MHz FSB Athlon processor very soon.

During the keynote, NVIDIA’s CEO was on stage to talk about the success that NVIDIA has had with their partnership with AMD. Also, with a little slip, the he mentioned a 400 MHz FSB Athlon running at the NVIDIA labs -- after more digging I verified with someone at AMD and at NVIDIA that the AMD Barton core processors will ship with a 400 MHz front side bus. This is huge news, as we should see about a 10% gain or so from just the bus increase, then adding on the additional cache and that will make Athlon Barton a more than competitive product.

Iwill P4HT-S Review
Cluboverclocker has just finished a review on a very nice board from Iwill. Good to see Iwill get their name out there again and this looks to be the kind of board they need to keep the spotlight on them!

This time of the year is great. New technology is emerging right before one of the biggest computer shows of the year. Every company is rushing to get their latest and greatest products out so they can be the talk of COMDEX. Iwill certainly followed suite but in no way is this a rushed, out the door product. Iwill didn't skimp on any of the features either. The only question is, will the Iwill P4HT-S, that comes with all of the latest and greatest technology, come with the bugs and instability that usually accompanies untried technology?
