Performance of an Athlon 64 Prototype
German site c't have trnslated their recent article looking at the performance of an engineering prototype Athlon64 clocked at just 1.2GHz.

The system we tested was an Athlon 64 with 1 mbyte L2 cache (16-fold associative, 64 byte cache line size) and a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz. Though that is a far cry from the opening clock frequency of 2 GHz planned for the new series at launch it nevertheless allows interesting conclusions regarding the performance one can expect from the Hammer CPUs to be drawn.

Chaintech Zenith 7NJS - nVidia nForce 2
Bench House share their thoughts on the Chaintech Zenith 7NJS nForce2 motherboard.

what did Chaintech want to accomplish with this new motherboard series? It seems that they wanted to offer motherboards with maximum features, good component quality, rich package and bundle, and all this with the goal of competing against the most popular manufacturers such as ASUS, MSI, ABIT... Because of this, Chaintech completely changed their offer, dividing it into three series positioned for different market segments: Zenith is positioned for the high-end market, Apogee for the mainstream, while Sumitth will be positioned for users who don’t care about extra features and who are satisfied with basic motherboard models. Basically, a very logical division, but still the reaction of the market remains to be seen.

DDR II: Memory of the Future
DDRII goes under the microscope over at X-bit as they examine what it is and where it's headed.

On the whole, if we look into details, we will find that there has been plenty of work done for keeping present infrastructure alive. The controller's command set hasn't been replaced, but expanded, so that one and the same memory controller would be able to work with both DDR and DDR II. We have the same principle of data packets transfer along the data bus, the same four-bank structure and the same memory page size. We should admit that the industry seems to shun the word "revolution" after the Rambus affair.

ATI Radeon 9500Pro
There's a little Radeon 9500 Pro action happening over at Liquid Ninjas. They picked this one up to replace a Ti4200 that died in service and seem pretty happy with their choice.

After some sacrifices I managed to scrape up a little over $200 and decided to do some research. Originally I was just going to replace it with another 4200 probably a Gainward. I was still under the impression that the 4200 was still the king of the budget cards. Something sneaked under my radar. I must have either been not paying attention when ATI released the 9500Pro or just passed it off as another paper launch of a product I wouldn’t see for a month or two. Luckily, I live in an area that has computer shows on a monthly basis so on Saturday I was off with my $200 and a mission to get a 9500Pro

CATALYST 3.0 Driver Report
FiringSquad have decided to take a closer look at ATi's new Catalyst 3.0 drivers. With so many conflicting reports about stability and stuttering problems another viewpoint is always useful.

However, to sweeten the package a bit, ATI has provided their RADEON 9700 launch demos from earlier this summer for direct download off their website. If the Natural Light 128-bit color demo drew your attention back in July, you’ll really be picking your jaw up off the floor after seeing it with your own eyes on your PC. You could possibly make a few bucks showing it off to your friends in the process.

Swiftech MCX462+T HSF Review
ClubOC have been lucky enough to get a look at Swiftech's latest masterpiece. This behemoth of a cooler comes with Swiftech's patented engineering excellence. Shame they didn't take time out to read the instructiuons first though! Less experienced users take note!

Fellow Overclockers, it is my privilege to announce that the air-cooled peltier is not dead. Of course that is always up for debate, and if you're a mad Overclocker such as myself, you know that its going to take a lot more than that kind of statement to convince you its true. Leave it Swiftech to be up for the challenge. I can just picture their developers staying up till 4AM trying to figure out the optimal configuration of wattage and surface area to make such a contraption work. These were the first things that came to my mind when I was asked to review this gigantic mammoth of a CPU Cooler called the MCX462+T from Swiftech!

X-pider TM2000 Thermal Monitor Review
OCIA has posted their review on the X-pider TM2000 Thermal Monitor. This one doubles up as port replicator too which is always useful when you're sacrificing a 5.25" bay.

Excluding the three temperature probes, these wires are used as extension cables to relocate the USB, sound and fire wire ports to the front panel of the unit. The entire unit slides into an empty 5 1/4" bay. Screws are provided to secure the unit in the bay. A rear PCI plate is also given with slits to accommodate for the audio wires that will be run from the back of the case. Power to the unit is supplied via a 4-pin molex connector.

MSI G4Ti4200-VTD8X Review
ViperLair have reviewed MSI's G4Ti4200-VTD8X. MSI have now reworked their cooling design and as we've come to expect features one of the most ridiculously large software bundles you'll find anywhere!

Sporting a new cooling solution for the GPU and Memory, as well as 128 Megs of onboard RAM and support for the 8x AGP bus, MSI now has an even more impressive Geforce4Ti4200 solution. In this review I will be comparing the new MSI Geforce4Ti4200 (G4Ti4200-VTD8X (MS-8894)) with the older MSI Geforc4Ti4200 (G4Ti4200-VTD64 (MS-8870)).

Vantec Nexus Fan Controller Review
ExtremeMhz has posted a review of the Vantec Nexus Fan Controller.

As computers become more and more powerful, additional cooling is required in order to keep them running stable. Standard ATX cases these days usually come with more than one fan. Additional air cooling leads to additional noise. Rheobus devices are used to control fan speeds leading to lower noise levels. Today we look at one of these devices by Vantec. Unlike many Rheobus kits available, Vantec adds quite a bit of style to their Nexus Fan Controller. Its striking design is targeted to please case modders and PC enthusiasts alike.

Samsung SM-348 CD-RW/DVD Combo
Combo drives are really beginning to pick up in popularity and IANAG dust off an award for the Samsung SM-348.

The SM-348 is a 48x24x48 CD-RW and a 16x DVD-ROM all in one unit. With small form factor PC's such as the Shuttle SB51G and the AMS gBox gaining popularity, people have some serious decision-making to do when it comes to filling their single 5.25" bay. Previously, choices were limited to either a CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD drive. In order to have 2 drives, an external drive would have to be added, but not with the Samsung SM-348.

Yes, I said 60mm fan grills! Let's begin.
