Back Again!
Well, I survived the Christmas festivities and even decided to take a two day break rather than keeping running right through like the past couple of years. Anyway, there's only new year to survive and it's back to business as usual, hopefully with a redesigned site to boot! What ever you did, where ever you did it, I hope your Christmas was memorable for all the right reasons.

With prices of new video cards being introduced in the $400.00 price range, there is still a need for a sub $100.00 card for those building budget systems that need a card that can still keep up with today’s games. Today we take a look at the Chaintech GEFORCE4 MX440 SE 64MB and see how it fairs in today’s gaming environment.

A Question of Capacitors
Overclockers have noticed some strange going on with regards the capacitors on the C1 stepping P4s and wonder if it helps with overclocking.

See this? - This has a capacitor arrangement identical to a 3.06. It actually is a Dell 1.8A manufactured week 40. Not incidentally, it also overclocks to 3.5GHz.

Whatever happened to...Quad Band Memory?
I know a few people who've felt no compulsion to step up from their trusty KT266A motherboards and RipNet take us back a couple of generations too as they check out the Jetway V266B.

S3 is not the only company to announce support for QBM. However, most of the intial announcements of QBM support were from earlier in the year. It's is now the end of 2002 and there is still no QBM products on the market.

Jetway V266B mainboard
I know a few people who've felt no compulsion to step up from their trusty KT266A motherboards and RipNet take us back a couple of generations too as they check out the Jetway V266B.

Jetway? .... Yes Jetway. I picked up a Jetway V266B, a Via KT266A mainboard to replace my expired Abit KT7. Why? Because I needed the machine back up and running without too much cost. At £50 the Jetway V266B appeared to be a reasonable bargain with a few useful features, bearing in mind you don't usually get much for £50.

2002 a look back into the changes that took place...
AMDWorld are giving their hindsight a workout as they cast their minds back over 2002. the year that NVIDIA lost their performance lead and Intel bit back.

Casting back over the year 2002 you can not fail to realize just how many changes and advances in computer hardware technology actually took place and just how many manufacturers there actually were producing top quality hardware. In this end of year digest we take a look at the changes that took place and what the manufacturers tried to focus on, though incredibly difficult that would have been but some succeeded and some did not.

Albatron KX400-8X
SubZeroTech take a wander round Albatron's KX400-8X KT400 motherboard. They have more luck with the overclocking than we had when we checked it out but only at fairly high voltages. When you smell burning you've gone too far!!

The last KT400 motherboard I looked at (the DFI AD77 Infinity) was excellent in terms of features but suffered in the performance department. Albatron has come a long way since their formation as a company in the motherboard market. Will their KT400 based motherboard be a hit as some of their previous motherboards?

ASUS V9280 Video Suite
Riva 3D take the new ASUS V9280 Ti4200 for a run out. The V9280 offers some very nice features and may take some of the glory away from what Tyan have lined up.

As usual, ASUS puts their best into their product, and it's nice to know that you can buy quality with confidence. They've worked hard for their reputation, and they deserve it. And once again, that quality workmanship is amply reflected in the V9280 Video Suite. ASUS totally redesigned the V9280 Video Suite’s PCB to incorporate more features, making it more feature-laden than any competing product.

The ATI Radeon 9700 Overclocking Project
Not happy with their recent pelt/watercooled Radeon 9700 overclock ipKonfig crank up tyhr juice and try again.

Not too long ago we reviewed the Swiftech WC50-T water block, which was equipped with an 80W Peltier, and had great success with it. We were able to achieve an overclock of 420 MHz on the Radeon 9700 using the block, up from its original speed of 324 MHz. At the end of that review we hinted about trying out the voltage mod that many have talked about and tried. So, here we are, once again, and with that voltage mod.

ATI RADEON 9500, RADEON 9500 PRO, RADEON 9700
vs.
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 and GeForce4 Ti4600
X-bit Labs chip in with a late entry for longest title of the year as the Radeon 9500s and 9700 do battle with the Ti4200 and 4600. FanATIcs should enjoy this one!

Graphics cards based on ATI RADEON 9700 Pro and NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4600 belong to the fastest and most expensive gaming solutions today. However, to get the highest profits possible, the companies should definitely have the whole family of graphics products, so that they could satisfy the needs of hardware enthusiasts ready to pay any money for extra performance and at the same time become a good choice for those, who look for some better value solutions.

Asus A7N8X Deluxe nForce2 Motherboard Review
Amdmb.com has published a review of the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard featuring the nForce2 chipset. While they reviewed previously a pre-production sample of this board, the retail version showed considerable gains in performance.

Where the Asus A7N8X motherboard really shines, however, is in its Deluxe model version of the board. Here is where you get all of the added features that make the motherboard worth having: Firewire, Serial ATA, 6-channel audio with Dolby Digital, dual NIC and more. The motherboard is a quality piece of hardware that most users would be proud and happy to have.

Abit Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8x OTES 128Mb
Digital-Daily have the new Siluro Ti4200-8x OTES up on blocks. Undoubtedly a great card but judt what is the value of that "8x" suffix?

The card is built on the new NV28 chip whose major difference from NV25 is the support for AGP8x. On the face of it, the specimen is practically identical to the formerly tested GF4 Ti4200 OTES, so we aren't going to dwell much on the card itself. Let me remind the pros and cons though.

ATI Radeon 9500 Pro Overclocking
ASE Labs just picked themselves up a Radeon 9500 Pro. The article covers unlocking the clocks and overclocking as well as general performance. It picks up the first of no doubt many awards.

The Radeon 9500 Pro for around $200 shows great performance at stock speeds, and slightly better (IMO) when overclocked. Since it is not just a matter of installing a program and overclocking, that can't be really included as a plus. But you get a great card at a good price. Just fix the OpenGL problems and it is all perfect.

Xoxide X450 Case Review
WinHQ has just recovered from a devastating three month server crash and kick off woth a review of the Xoxide X450 case.

After freeing the case from its dank, corrugated enclosure from UPS, I noticed the fact that it was extremely light due to the fact that this whole case has an aluminum construction. The X450 has a very nice brushed aluminum surface with rounded edges and other features that seem..
