One Must Fall: Battlegrounds Demo

Posted By : ulukai Date : Monday, July 19 2004 ~ 8:21 AM
Battlegrounds is the first on-line, 3D, multiplayer fighting game. OMF:BG represents a serious change in the philosophy of making fighting games. Instead of 2 players facing off in a small space, Battlegrounds features up to sixteen simultaneous players in huge arenas, fighting in team battles or all-out brawls!

Our goal is to free you, the player, from the restrictions of the past, and allow you to fight the way you've always wanted to. Just like your favourite martial-arts movies, you can go toe-to-toe with several opponents, use nearby objects as weapons, and integrate terrain and hazards into your fighting strategy.

Ground Control II: Operation Exodus reviews

Posted By : Dan Date : Saturday, June 26 2004 ~ 9:45 PM
The original Ground Control didn't exactly fly off the shelves like Command and Conquer--but for those of you who played it--you may remember some of the game's nicer points. Upon its release, Ground Control set itself apart from much of the RTS crowd. The game's impressive 3D landscapes and polished unit design and unique gameplay nestled the game into an RTS niche of its own.

The sequel to Ground Control, Ground Control II: Operation Exodus, continues the trend of attractive graphics and interesting gameplay. Check out the reviews and give the demo a shot if you're interested.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Thief: Deadly Shadows reviews

Posted By : Dan Date : Monday, June 21 2004 ~ 9:54 AM
The sequel to the popular Thief series is out and, while the game seems to remain true to its predecessors, its reviews are certainly mixed.

The game currently holds an average rating of 85% on GameRankings.com. Click the link below to sample one review of Thief: Deadly Shadows, this one from Adrenaline Vault.
As someone who thought a lot of the first two Thief games, I wondered what the change of developers would do to my beloved series. Happily, the core principals that made Thief a legend are wholly intact, but there have been a few changes. (AdrenalineVault.com)

The Summer Gaming Season

Posted By : Dan Date : Monday, June 21 2004 ~ 9:46 AM
Hi everyone - hope all of you are enjoying the summer and finding a minute or two to play your favorite games in the comfort of air-conditioning. There's definitely a lot to be excited about right now in the gaming world. E3 offered us a glimpse into the games coming down the pipeline, the release of Half Life 2 is approaching (The August edition of PC Gamer lists 9/01/04 as a probable release date for Half Life 2.), and, at last, it seems like Doom 3 will hit the shelves before the next Star Wars movie hits the big screen.

Keep your fingers crossed on that one!

That said--for those of us who know Rise of Nations well--we can look forward to an upcoming expansion pack to RON entitled Thrones and Patriots. The expansion is set to hit store shelves on April 28th!

MAX PAYNE 2

Posted By : Dan Date : Thursday, November 6 2003 ~ 1:15 AM
The first Max Payne--short as it was--was well worth the time of anyone who worked their way through the game. Max Payne's inventive and engrossing gameplay and plotline was a much needed breath of fresh air for the first (or third) person shooter genre.

Now, Max Payne returns, in the sequel MAX PAYNE 2: THE FALL OF MAX PAYNE. According to those of you in the forums and elsewhere who've played it, the game doesn't disappoint in the least. Check out these reviews and see for yourself:

CALL OF DUTY Reviews

Posted By : Dan Date : Thursday, November 6 2003 ~ 12:58 AM
Hi everyone! Some great new games have recently come out that deserve a bit of space in this gaming section. The two that immediately come to mind are CALL OF DUTY and MAX PAYNE 2.

On the PC, World War II has not come alive in more cinematic fashion as it has in CALL OF DUTY. If you've played the demo, you know what this game is all about: glorious visuals and tight awe-inspring single-player shooter gameplay. Try out the demo if you haven't already: there's a link to it a couple topics below. The game's getting more than solid reviews, and warrants the attention of any shooter die-hard and/or WWII junkie.

Here are some links to reviews of Call of Duty

Jedi Academy Demo

Posted By : Dan Date : Monday, September 8 2003 ~ 7:26 PM
While we're on the subject of impressive demos, check out the new demo for Star Wars: Jedi Academy. It looks and plays much like last year's Jedi Outcast game, which means it's pretty awesome. This time around, you are one of Kyle Katarn's students and are gaining experience and force power points while working your way through missions. In one of the levels from the demo, you fight alongside Chewbacca en route to gaining access to a couple ships. Check out the link below.

Call of Duty Demo

Posted By : Dan Date : Monday, September 8 2003 ~ 7:21 PM
After downloading the demo of Call of Duty and starting it up, I had to call my roomate over to my side of the room to see why my jaw had dropped in the last five minutes.
This is some of the most immersive and satisfying war gaming I've ever come across.
In the demo, you and the other soldiers on your side storm a building on foot while dodging heavy artillery, land mines, and bombings, all the while watching planes getting shot out the air and crashing into the ground. Fires blaze in glorious arrays of smoke and flames.
Probably the best fire and smoke effects I've seen in a game. The sound is top notch too, a perfect blend of distant sounds and in-your-face explosiveness.
If the complete game is as excellent as this demo level, we're all in for a treat.
Check out the link below to grab it offline. Hope you enjoy it as much as my roomate and I are.

Deus Ex 2 Not To Ship This Year ?!?!

Posted By : Dan Date : Thursday, August 14 2003 ~ 10:12 PM
Like we didn't see this one coming :-( The word out on GoneGold.com is that Deus Ex 2 may not ship until December, not its earlier release date. I don't know about you guys, but this is the one I'm looking forward to the most.

Until further notice, I'm putting Deus Ex 2: Invisible War on the 'unlikely to ship list' for this year. It's been moved to 12/02 and it's not even September yet. This would be a real disappointment, because it's a potential Game of the Year candidate, but right now it's not looking good for 2003.
