Part Three: A Closer Look At The Card

As we have noted many times before, with so many cards offering similar levels of performance, the retail bundle becomes very important indeed. Will the low cost of the Albatron card prevent us from finding gerousity in the bundle?

The card was packaged very well indeed, clearly Albatron have thought about the crowded nV based card shelves and have opted for a simple yet classy design. We see none of the relative 'cheapness' of the familiar beast and skull images and this ensures the product remains stylish and appealing. The only gripe is the box isn't easy to photograph!

The retail pack was very good indeed considering the price of the package. Albatron have even found room for two full games, a nice feature when we consider that some companies don't include any games at all.

The Albatron Geforce 4 Ti4600 Retail Pack: -

- The card itself.
- 1 x User's Manual
- 1 x Driver CDROM
- S Video to AV converter
- AV Cable
- WinDVD
- Serious Sam
- Motocross

The card was very well made, using the blue PCB adds to appeal but is not intrusive in the slightest. The overall build quality of the card was exceptional.

The design of the board is very reference like, which isn't a bad thing. The usual inclusion of DVI and analog connections was again present here. nVidia's nView technology has certain answered multimonitor fans who, until the GF4 was released, were pushed more towards ATi's Hydravision.

The HSF has a reference design yet branded with the Albatron colors. The unit was produced excellently with no obvious sharp edges or defects, something we don't always find. The BGA formed ram will have to rely on the HSF's output of air for cooling as no ramsinks are included. Most card makers are realizing that memory heatsinks are more for commercial show with the faster ram as the physical packing doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the older TSOP based modules.
