Sandra 2004:::...
I
ran Sandra more than anything to compare the results
using the IEEE1394 (Firewire) interface to those using
USB2.0. I used a CD-R which limits reads to a maximum
of 8x in this case.
USB2.0
offers the greater throughput at present with 480Mbit/sec
as opposed to just 400Mbit/sec for Firewire but this
is more than enough to handle the theoretical throughput
of 16.2 MB/sec from a 12x DVD-ROM.
400
Megabits is about 50 Megabytes incidentally in case
you care.

There
was a slight edge to the USB2.0 interface in the DVD
test but it's pretty much within the margin for error.
I certainly wouldn't favour one over the other or
worry if I only had one of them available.
All
further testing was carried out using USB2.0 as it's
what most of you would use at a guess.
