Part Four: The Test Setup And A Note On Compatibility...
Firstly we must point out that the 2100+ is using
a 13x Multiplier thus a few incompatibilities are to be expected.
Some motherboards will detect the settings perfectly while others
may require a BIOS update to add the 13x functionality. If your
motherboard has such CPU options (FSB, Multi', Voltages etc.)
it may be worth checking if you have an option for 13x. In the
test setup I used, the motherboard in question (Abit's
KR7a RAID) has an option in Soft Menu III called 12.5/13.
In practice, as we have come to expect from Abit, this worked
perfectly and the board booted using the 13x option. In conclusion
then, if your board is relatively new you should be able to
run the 2100+, just make sure you take a trip to your manufactures
web site first to ensure you have flashed the latest BIOS.

Part Five: CPU Performance
Sandra's CPU and CPU Multi-media benchmarks would
give a good indication of just how good this new CPU from AMD
truly was. The results are as follows...

The XP series has always had startling performance
from their Floating Point and Arithmetic and Logic units. The
2100+ produced some amazing results, besting the P4's Dhrystone
ALU scores and narrowly falling behind by only the smallest
margins to the Whetstone scores. If we consider this on a pure
MHz to MHz basis this is a remarkable feat. The 1900+ is left
behind by the 2100+ as we would expect, in both tests.

The XP's thoroughly beat the reference P4 in this
benchmark. The iterations per second far exceed those of Intel's
finest. The 1900+ was again left behind by the frequency increase
of the 2100+, this chip produces some of the highest default
benchmark scores seen to date.
We move toward Video 2000 next to keep on in the
Multimedia theme...
