A big thank you to Dave at QuietPC who provided this sample for review

A close examination of the cooler itself reveals a few issues that both give me hope for the noise aspect, but concern for performance... Good news first.

The good news...The fan is mounted with a rubbery glue rather than screws. This is to keep vibration to a minimum which should add to the silence that is one selling feature of this cooler.

The Questionable... One thing I’m not sure of is why the name “Copper Silent” since only the base is copper.

The concern... The base appears to be soldered onto the main body of the heatsink itself which is made of a coarse, lightweight aluminum. The specs say that they use tin solder which aids in heat transfer. I sure hope the soldering job doesn’t affect heat transfer as it looks fairly rough. There are even a couple of small gaps in the joint.

Nitpicking... The base is very rough as well; performance freaks will want to lap this down a bit to ensure gap-free contact with the CPU. The ridges are not only noticeable from the fingernail test (a proven method that we have developed here at 3DV) but they are visible to the naked eye. It seems that a little more attention to detail (or better QA) is in order for future production to avoid sloppy solder and rough bases.
