Part Five: Sandra

The ever popular Sandra forms the first part of our testing, let's take a look at what you can expect from the Athlon XP 2600+

It's certainly an amazing start for this new CPU, the P4 performance levels are smashed thanks mainly to the XP's superior Arithmetic and Logic units. The Multimedia benchmark shows a similar trend, beating the Pentium 4 quite resoundingly.

Strangely, no matter how many times we ran the test, the new CPU couldn't outpace the older 2100+. Although this isn't that important when evaluating actual CPU performance it's nevertheless and interesting quirk which we may well investigate at a later date. Needless to say the Rambus based P4 system was far quicker again which is to be expected.
