Installation:::...
As
is fortunately very often the case these days, installation
is very much an operation in Plug'nPlay.

Windows
naturally detects the integral Conexant chipset during the
installation.

The
next step is to install Qstart...
What
Is Qstart?:::...
In
a nutshell, Qstart is a quick and easy way to configure
the modem settings without having to wade through the mass
of confusing settings that reside in the main browser-accessible
settings menu.

Once
Qstart is installed the rest is relatively straightforward.
To begin with you choose your country from the drop-down
menu. This then brings up a list of the main ISPs for that
country. Add your username and password and you're good
to go.

Luckily
my own ISP (Pipex) was on the ISP list, though for all countries
there seems to be generic settings for if your ISP isn't
featured. In the case of the Uk the generic setting was
"Others PPPoA VC_Mux", a setting that covers every
ISP in the UK, which kind of makes the specific ISP entries
more a peace-of-mind measure than a necessity.

If
you're having problems there's a nice diagnostics panel
that not only carried out testing, it also offers help and
possible problem solving solutions for each of the tests
performed.

The
"Advance Setting Page" button didn't actually
work, so I had to manually type in the IP address and then
add the username and password, which by default were "admin"
and "epicrouter".

Once
the username and password are accepted you're into the heavy
duty settings. I doubt you want to fight through a 25-page
explaining each and every setting and what they mean (even
if I knew), so the next page will be mainly a pictorial
tour of the various screens:
