What
You Get:::...
The
box is just class and you'd expect nothing less from a company
with Enermax's stature and experience. The capacity and
all the key headline features are right there on the front
where they need to be.

And
inside everything is nestled snuggly and safely together.
Okay so it's not quite as protective as Hiper's giant
lunch box idea but there should be plenty of padding
to shrug off most knocks en-route to the point of sale or
to your home.

The
supply itself looks surprisingly bland by recent standards.
There's no illuminated 120mm fan, no high-shine mirror finish
and no UV-reactive cables.

It's
hard to judge from the photos but the finish is a kind of
dull blue with metallic flecks. I had a bit of a scrape
on a hidden part of the casing and the paint seems pretty
durable. This is always useful, particularly when you need
to force one into the tight confines often encountered with
smaller cases. Try that with a Tagan PSU and it ends up
looking like it's been head to head with a flail mower!
Gold
finger guards look classy against the dark enclosure and
the embossed Enermax logo reminds you this is no el-cheapo
generic product.
The
top of the unit sports the 90mm fan while the 80mm fan sits
in the rear.

Slightly
more noisy but theoretically more durable ball bearing fans
are used in both the 80mm and 90mm positions.
On
the rear, things look pretty standard apart from a small
black knob which is used to set the 80mm fan to thermal
control or to manually set its spin speed. The missing voltage
selection switch denotes the full-range input that comes
with active PFC circuitry.

Now
either this label is wrong or I'm reading it wrong. I think
what it should say is that the fans spin until the temperature
falls below 40c after power-off, NOT that they stop.

Where
the cables emerge is a collar which I assume contains a
ferrite ring as it's boasting about improved EMI shielding.
Nice touch!

Here's
a closer look at the paint finish. You can see the rather
drab blue colour and the silver metallic flecks. Of course
for most users looks are irrelevant once the PSU is tucked
away inside a closed case, but with increasing trends towards
windowed cases, cosmetic appearance is taking on new importance.
Not that the Enermax is ugly, far from it, it's just not
very exciting.
