Benchmarks:::...

Talk about the feasibility of memory modules running at CL1.5 have been rife ever since the option first appeared in the BIOS of certain motherboards. Opinions from memory manufacturers themselves has varied from "it can't be done" to "what's the point?".

Saying it can't be done is fine if that's what you believe, but questioning the point of it seems a little naive. I mean let's be honest, many of the advances and introductions that have put companies on the map in the past have had questionable benefits. It's more about proving it can be done than about whether it's worth doing at all.

Test System:

  • DFI LANParty UT nF3 250Gb Motherboard
  • Connect3D Radeon X800XT-PE
  • Western Digital 128GB HDD
  • Athlon64 3400+
  • OCZ EL PC3200

PCMark05

Running the memory test from PCMark05 shows how limited the benefits of CL1.5 are at such high frequencies, even though 200MHz doesn't sound terrifically high these days.

ScienceMark 2:::...

ScienceMark remains a firm favoutite here at 3DV, and the memory benchmark gives a good range of useful data.

OCZ

GeIL CL2.0

GeIL CL1.5

At CL2.0 the GeIL modules seem to offer better bandwidth than OCZ's, while at CL1.5 we see an increase from 2847 to 2888MB/sec. Keeping things real, you're NOT going to feel this difference in regular use. This is about prestige.
