Introduction:::…
We
had to wait for a while; but, it has finally arrived…Half
Life 2. Was it worth the wait? I’d say, “Yes”,
and I’ll try and explain why in this review.
The
game has had it share of problems. Last year
a hacker stole the sources which prompted Valve to redesign
the game and levels and, consequently delay the release
date.
This
year, just before the release, Vivendi and Valve had some
arguments about the release and the release date was delayed
yet again.
All
of these problems have been overcome and the game is now,
finally, released.
Let’s
take a look to see if the game is really what it’s hyped
up to be.
The Story unfolds…
You,
playing the role of Gordon Freeman, start off being awakened
by G-man. G-man is the mysterious
character with a blue suit from the first Half Life game.
You are given a choice between two disagreeable
options, work for him or die.
The
choice is made. G-man fades out and you ride the train that
enters City 17.
It
stops at the station that looks like a deportation station.
The
place is filled with a well-armed police force that won’t
hesitate to thump your skull if you look at them cross-eyed.
Barney,
the security guard and old friend from Half Life, helps
you out a little by giving you some info and lets you escape
out the back.
With
the cops on your tail, you now have to find your way to
the underground resistance hideout.
This
is where the action essentially begins and the rollercoaster
of action starts.
Half
Life 2 takes place some unknown years after the Black Mesa
incident from the first Half Life game.
An
unknown enemy called Combine has taken over the planet and
placed a government of their choice in power.
This
government is a puppet of the Combine and does their evil
work.
As
a result, the world has become a police state and the streets
are constantly patrolled, flying machines with cameras checking
everyone out, armed police forces ready to strike at a moments
notice.
Valve
has made a good effort to convey a very desolate and grim
atmosphere; and, they have succeeded.
You,
as Gordon Freeman, must free humanity and defeat the Combine.
Most
of the time, you will be fighting alone.
Sometimes, you will be fighting alongside the freedom
seeking resistance fighters.
I
must admit the story line sounds a bit cliché and more like
the same of the first part; but, the first part was a huge
success, so why change it?
