A
Closer Look:::...
Initial
reaction is that the LC06 is a clean, simple design with
classic lines. The front fascia is thick and robust, as
is the body really being formed from 1mm aluminium.
A
strategically placed vent sits directly above the processor
location on the top surface to aid cooling.
Inside
the chassis you find a selection of necessary accessories.
There's an external 80watt power transformer, a straight
and 90 degree PCI slot adapter, the main ATX power cable
with dual 4-pin Molexes and a single floppy connector, manual
and screws, and an aluminum finishing strip with double-sided
tape for "stealthing" your optical drive so it
blends with the front face of the LC06.
The
only opening on the front of the LC06 is for your optical
drive. To the right of this is the spring loaded eject button,
which operates mechanically by pressing on the drive's eject
button. Further right again are the Mic and Phones jacks,
then a pair of USB 2.0 ports and an IEEE1394 (FireWire)
port. Finally is the very nicely bevel-machined aluminium
power button and dual blue LEDs.

I'm
concerned that with no cover it will be only a matter of
time before those USB and FireWire ports clog up with dust,
but I'm not a fan of hiding them behind little doors in
this kind of application as it becomes a pain keep having
to open and close it, not to mention the durability issues.
Also, recessing them makes some plugs/peripherals impossible
to plug in, so I suppose on balance this way will have to
do. Just remember to get the vacuum cleaner nozzle on them
from time to time.

The
back holds few surprises, accept possible the inclusion
of two expansion slots. Of course you can only use one of
them with the supplied adapters, you'll need a double-height
90-degree adapter to take advantage of the top one.
To
the bottom left you can make out the power socket, a very
durable looking affair that shouldn't wear out any time
soon.
Below
the opening for the rear I/O plate are two of the six screws
which secure the internal hard drive caddy.

Vents
either side allow air drawn in as the CPU fan exhausts out
of the top to flow along your expansion card/s.

Naturally
as is role is that of a domestic unit, "hi-fi separate"
style feet are a must, though for a change they're not gold
coloured bur silver. The rubber pads make for stable, slide-free
placement while also isolating some noise.

Perhaps
the biggest weakness is that the size of the LC06 isn't
comparable to that of most hi-fi separates, which usually
means it will end up sat on top of things rather than under
them, no bad thing thermally, but something to consider
when you buy.
