SiSoft Sandra MAX3 Memory Bandwidth

Although synthetic in nature SiSoft's Sandra offers a valuable insight towards overall performance levels. We're running the new MAX3 flavour of this ever popular software and ran both the memory bandwidth and the cache and memory benchmarks with system performance set to "Normal" and also set to "Ultra".

I wasn't planning on running a dozen pages of benchmarks simply because I hadn't envisaged the MEGA as being particularly suitable for high end gaming but perhaps I underestimated it. Performance levels for what is essentially a single channels P4 platform seem right in step with those we've come to expect from the popular i845 chipset when the system performance is cranked up so with a fast processor and maybe a Radeon 9700/9800 Pro or FX5600 Ultra or similar you'd find yourself with a perfectly acceptable and near high-end gaming system. Incredible! If you're using the MEGA in a living room environment connected to your TV you could even get some quality gaming done at fluid framerates with a much less powerful graphics card as TV-out is limited to a mere 800x600, allowing for some high framerate TV gaming on a something fairly cheap like a Radeon 7/8xxx or GeForce4 MX or Ti series card.
