A Closer Look:::...

....in fact they're not really feet, they're small protrusiuons pressed into the floor of the case. These will not only slide all over any hard surface you may stand the case on (like your desk?), they also transmit noise and vibrations, so amplifying them in certain situations.

Case Feet

Now to the real disappointment. This cream coloured plastic piece is used to hold your expansion cards in place by trapping them between it and the steel lip below it. The problem isn't that it doesn't work, it's just that sinse when was removing three screws to fit an expansion card easier than unscrewing one? If there's a good reason for this arrangement I have to come clean and admit it's not obvious to me.

Expansion Card Retainer

Internally things are simple and unspectacular. The 3.5" drive cage stretches to the case floor which gives room for five internal devices plus your floppy. Above this is the somewhat flimsy feeling 5.25" drive cage, though as soon as you add a drive it becomes far more substantial feeling and certainly isn't really any cause for concern. As is indicated by the blanks, there's room for four 5.25" external devices.

There are no removable drive cages or motherboard try but the Elite is quite roomy so this isn't a big problem. What I don't like though is how close the motherboard mounting panel is to the far side panel. Give it a gently push before you fit your motherboard and if the two make contact and are likely to vibrate together, remove the far side panel and very gently bow the motherboard panel away from it. Only slightly or you'll strain the motherboard when it's fitted. A couple of strategically placed felt pads on the back of the motherboard panel would be an idea just to make sure they never make metal on metal contact together

You've got to hand it to Mercury, not only a power supply but an 80mm case fan too!
