Mercury
supply a full compliment of five ball-joint style wall mounting
brackets, along with wall plugs and screws. The brackets
are quite elegant in a minimalist kind of way, but three
of the five weren't sufficiently stiff to support the weiht
of the satellites when placed on them and simply drooped.
One of these could be recified by tightening the screws
in the pressure plate at the back, but the other two would
probably need some paper, thin card or other makeshift shim
petween the plate and the ball to increase the pressure
and stiffen up the joint.

It's
cables galore, and Mercury have taken the ceditable step
of covering all the bases by supplying three twin phono
to twin phono cables and three stereo jack to twin-phono
cables which should let you connect up either your DVD player
or a PC sound card, plus a whole lot in between.
There
are also five bundles of twin core speaker wire, two having
extra length for the rear (surround) speakers.

The
remote does everything the on-sub controls can do, whiuch
still leaves it looking rather basic. From the remote you
can put the speakers in standby, adjust the sub bass level,
switch input between the two channel stereo input and 6
channel 5.1 input and adjust the master volume levels.
Mercury
claim the remote works within a 120 degree angle of acceptance
though this was only the case up close. From about ten feet
or more away the angle was much tighter than this on our
test unit, in fact it was closer to about 90 degrees.

The
cabinet is made from wood but the front fascia is made from
a matt plastic which looks a little austere but but quite
classy. The unit is front ported though the port seems rather
short for its quite large diameter. I can't help wondering
if a "U" shaped port wouldn't have performed better.

The
IR reciever is positioned at the very top and below this
is the power/standby button with red status LED, mater volume
controls, sub base level buttons and 2 channel or 6 channel
input selector with yellow or gren LED status lights.

The
rear of the sub is dominated by the large heat sink which
gets quite warm in use. There are separate inputs for either
a pair of stereo inputs or three pairs of 5.1 channel inputs.
This lets you connect, for example, a DVD player with 5.1
output and a stereo source such as your CD or MP3 player
simultaneously and switch from one to the other using the
remote or the sub.
Alongside
these are five pairs of guillotine connectors to which the
speaker cables connect.
All
that remains is the fuse holder and mater power switch.

Four
rubber feet keep the sub where you place it and keep vibrations
where they should be rather than transferring them through
any hard surface you may want to stand it on.
