For a while now, Internet security has become a major part of everyone's cyber life. Stopping hackers getting into your PC and causing mischief is one of the main concerns, but how do you completely put your mind at ease without having to give up the Internet completely?
Nexland have the answer for you!
Introduction:
With today's computing world, most PCs are connected to the Internet. Whether it is through a dial up account, broadband or above, you are still prone to some vicious attacks. Of course, you are not left to fend off for yourself! Companies like Nexland are helping to make your surfing/gaming online a peace of mind and enjoyable experience without having to worry about what could be happening right under your nose!
There are two types of firewall you can purchase today, a hardware firewall (separate piece of hardware from your machine directly connected to the internet) or a software firewall (usually installed on the machine directly connected to the Internet). Of course a software firewall is constantly taking up system resources, which you could be using for other important programs; which is why a Hardware firewall is usually the suitable answer to protection.
What comes in the box?
The ISB Professional Unit is the main security device itself (pretty obvious really!), which comes in a stylish purple colour. What makes this unit more value for money is that it is also a hub at the same time where you can connect 4 PC's directly to the unit or up to 253 PC's altogether!!! This ideal from the home user all the way up to a small business!
At the back of the Unit is where most of the cabling is situated, from left to right:
1. Dip switch
This is for restore and backup purposes.
If for any reason you come into difficulty with the unit and the Reset button doesn't help, these dipswitches when put into certain combinations will help to MANUALLY MASTER RESET, RESTORE BACKUP and RESTORE CONFIGURATIONS
2. Activity LED's
There are 4 sets of 3 LEDs, which represent each individual LAN port that you are connected to. Each light represents if you are either running in 100/10BaseT and Duplex modes
3. LAN Ports
Pretty self-explanatory here! There are 4 LAN ports (10/100BaseT capable) where you connect your PC's or other hubs/routers
4. Modem Port
Your modem plugs in here. You have to have a CAT5 link from your Internet connection (be it ADSL, Cable etc) to the Security Device, so if you have a USB only ADSL modem, you are going to run into trouble!
5. Modem link LED
This will light up when your modem has been connected. If it doesn't, its time for you to check your cables!!
