Introduction:::...
A couple of weeks ago you may recall I reviewed a nifty little multimedia player that could play back a variety of file formats, came with an onscreen menu system and could be powered directly from the USB port.
That was the NTD-25, and impressive though it was our good friend Bruce over at The CD Manager was erring over importing them because of the current price premium payable on 2.5" hard disks.
Well today I'm looking at a slightly less pocket-able unit, the NTD-35, which utilizes cheap and readily available 3.5" hard drives in preference to the NTD-25s 2.5" units.
This brings with it good and bad aspects. The good being that, as I mentioned, 3.5" drives are usually cheaper per Megabyte, they're easier to source, there's more chance you have one tucked in a drawer from an upgrade and they come in larger capacities than the typical 100GB limit on 2.5" drives.
The bad is that 3.5" drives require a 12V feed, too large to be supplied by the USB port, and so the NTD-35 must be tethered to a mains socket when it's in use as a standalone player or as a drive enclosure on a PC or notebook.
