Part Three: The Microfreezer
This is the part that will be responsible
for providing those sub zero temperatures to your CPU
so it's important we see what this unit can do.
The first image is provided in the user's
manual while the second is from our test unit. It's certainly
a well constructed piece of equipment. Let's look at the
details, firstly with an image of the unit from Chip-Con.
The image is once more 'clickable' should
you wish to have a closer look.
What we don't see in this image is the mainboard,
this is situated between the bottom two pieces of the
device. It isn't however simply screwed on to the back
using the standard mounting holes. Rather we have to introduce
a unique feature of the Prometeia cooling system, it's
sealing compound. In order to obtain a vacuum and ensure
no air escapes from the seal created by the installation
of this unit, Chip-Con have provided a unique rubber like
string that is to be placed around the cooling head and
mainboard.
I know exactly what you are thinking because
I did to: 'No way am I sticking that to my motherboard!'
Chip-Con assure us that it's a specially formulated seal
string that leaves no sticky residue. I'm extremely happy
to report that this is indeed the case. It's very easy
indeed to manipulate the seal string to ensure no air
can escape from underneath the unit and it peels away
very easily indeed. In fact it's so good you could never
have guessed you used it upon inspecting your motherboard.
This was an important feature to get just right and Chip-Con
have hit the target dead center here. The seal string
is a winner with me, clean, easy and highly effective.
The case provided with this system was beautiful
presented and would look at home in any room of your house
or office, this is what we will focus on as we move toward
