Velocity would like to thank Soft Trading, especially Mads, for providing this
sample for review I have to start this review with a small confession.
I had the Steelpad 4S shipped to me with a heart full of skepticism and the intent
of dispelling the idea that there is as much value in a fifty dollar mousing surface
as so many manufacturers claim. However, after playing with the Steelpad 4s for
a few days I can see the difference between a quality mousing surface and a regular
old mouse pad.
The
Steelpad 4s came in a plain brown wrapper encasing the retail package shown here.
The flat black package has a collage of images from some games with a picture
of the Steelpad overlaying them.
Inside
there is the pad itself, a strip of Teflon tape and a bookmark sized info sheet
that describes how to apply the tape.
At
first glance, it is obvious that the Steelpad is not actually made from steel,
but rather anodized aluminum. A quick look at the back of the package verifies
my suspicion as the description of the pad states that it is actually a "3.5mm
aluminum plate that has been treated, hardened and fiber polished." It measures
11 1/2" x 9 1/2" (29cm x 24.5cm) which walks the balance of desktop
real estate and optimal surface area nicely.
The
bottom of the pad is ringed by eight tiny feet made of clear silicone that provide
plenty of traction to prevent from sliding around the desktop.
