Step
one was of course to find a suitable recipient, and what
better than to use my very own machine? Being a Toshiba
too this may just be enough to get them to email me and
suggest I leave the drive in there instead of sending it
back. It's obviously where it was born to reside!

after a few long breaths of the gas and air, I flipped the
patient over onto her back and opened her up. Undignified
I know, but necessary.

Here
you can see the original organ on the left, the transplant
in the middle and the caddy over on the right.
The
original unit is a 30GB Hitachi Travelstar 80GN which, apart
from the capacity, is a very nice and very similarly specified
unit that should make for a great performance comparison.

you intend opening up your own notebook for any reason I
strongly suggest you look into the warranty conditions first
and check whether or not you risk voiding the warranty by
doing the job yourself.
