Introduction:::...
The
Ultra-X comes with what you could possible tink of as a
cable starter pack, though in reality it contains all the
cables most users will ever require and then a few.
Being
entirely steel braided they are a touch on the stiff side
at first, but they are also incredibly neat and tidy looking
when installed.

Cables In Detail

In
keeping with the quality of the cables is the quality of
the connectors on the ends. These aren't your generic dime-a-dozen
Molex Connectors, these are matt black, chunky and, with
the silver Ultra logo embedded into them, incredibly slick.

Easy
to grip and very sturdy looking, these connectors really
are the ultimate finishing touch. Cheap connectors on a
power supply like this would have just killed the illusion,
as would bright, gaudy or tacky connectors, so kudos to
Ultra for getting the balance right when it would have been
so easy to get it totally and horribly wrong.

One
of the drawbacks with this style of cable and connector
is that you can't identify the individual terminals by looking
at the colour of the wire that feeds it. Not an issue for
the regular user but for the more advanced user (or the
habitual tinkerer), things like shorting the ATX connector
to power up the PSU without plugging it into a motherboard
involve taking a little more care.

Isn't
that chunky floppy connector great? One day all floppy connectors
will be made this way, probably just before they phase them
out completely!

Ultra
are extremely proud of the quality of their cables and rightly
so. Steel braid shielding keeps them well shielded and protected,
plus the clear outer shroud is UV reactive too. Extra cables
in various colours can be bought individually should you
need them HERE.
