The software is primarily the same as for the Graphire but without the mouse options obviously.

As I mentioned, both the barrel switches are programmable, as is the double click distance which is a clever though hard-to-explain way to stop rapid brush strokes from being interpreted as a double click from the tip of the pen. In essence what it does is lets you set how close together two taps from the tip of the pen must be before they are presumed to be a deliberate double click. Set too big an area and two fast pen strokes could be mistakenly translated as a double click. Set it too small and both pen taps have to be pretty much on the exact same spot on the tablet, and that's not as easy as it sounds. Experimentation is certainly the key.

You can also use the pen in either pen mode or tablet mode. In pen mode (absolute positioning), the position of the pen in relation to the tablet is always identical to the position of the cursor in relation to the screen. Place your pen ten percent in from the left and ten percent down from the top and your cursor will be ten percent in from the left of your screen and ten percent down from the top.

In mouse mode (relative positioning), the movement of the pen is translated to movement of the cursor, and its position on the tablet has no bearing whatsoever on where the cursor is on your screen. As with your mouse, operating this way may mean you hit the edge of the tablet's active area when trying to move your cursor and have to lift and reposition your pen to continue.

Tablet Properties

By default the active area of the tablet represents the entire screen area, though from the Pen Mode Details screen this can be changed.

Portion of Screen mode lets you reduce effective sensitivity and increase accuracy by having the tablet's active area relate to only a portion of the screen. So, if you're working on a photograph that occupies only a central 50% of the screen you can have the entire tablet work just on that portion of the screen rather than edge to edge.

You can also do the same thing with the tablet. If you'd sooner work with a smaller active area to minimize pen movement then you can reduce it as you like. This effectively increases sensitivity while reducing accuracy.
