Up close and personal, we see that this small external
sound card has just enough functionality for playback,
but is lacking any sort of input. You'll have to count
on your PC or Laptop having a mic jack if you want
to capture sound.

The main unit is pretty slick looking.
About the size of a floppy disk, it shows just how
compact electronics can get these days.

The front has three 1/8” jacks for
connecting Front, Rear and Center/Sub channels

The side has three volume dials for
their respective channels

On the back is the USB connector alongside
an optical out for those with the capability.
The ZM-RSSC is designed with Zalman’s
new 5.1 channel surround sound headphones in mind,
so there is limited I/O here. In fact, there is just
“O”… The three outputs and USB connector are the only
ways that anything connects to this. For input, you
will have to rely on your PC or laptop to have a mic
jack that can be enabled separately from a USB audio
source... But I already mentioned that, didn't I?
Before we get into testing and conclusions and all
that, let’s see what Zalman has for specs and features;
(basic cut and paste to follow…)
1) Small and Compact
2) Easy-to-Connect Plug-n-Play USB Interface
3) Digital & Analog Output
This product supports both optical and coaxial types
of digital outputs along with analog 5.1 channel outputs.
4) 3 Volume Controls
3 Volume controls provide independent level adjustments
for the Front, Rear, and Center/Subwoofer output channels.
(For digital output, the volume can be controlled
by a volume control on a speaker.)
5) Amplifier included
A built-in amplifier provides full sound and ease
of use.

should be. At least I tried…
So, with paper out of the way, it’s time to plug
in and listen…
