Alot of criticism of Chaintech about straying from
the standard nVidia soundchip and going with C-Media
instead, so let's have a listen to what the onboard
sound is like
Since the nForce drivers don't support the C-Media
chipset it was necessary to install a seperate audio
driver when I built the test rig. Once installed,
I got a little audio test interface, it has many demos
of EAX, Direct Sound and an assortment of effects
that can be applied
And I must mention that the sound quality
is superb. I have not felt the inclination to install
my GameTheater XP in the rig here due to the fantastic
sound, and the USB and headphone jacks in the C-Box2.
For gaming, the acoustic range is very
impressive and the EAX effects are spot on. Like I
said, I have 4.1 surround here in the dungeon and
the surround effects are as good as some of the better
sound cards that I have owned.
As far as listening to music, the quality
is as good as my GameTheater XP (which has been my
favorite card yet). And I am hard pressed to find
fault in their choice of C-Media.
